The short version

Scorpion Auto Tech is Eli’s shop: one unit in the industrial strip on Blackwell Street, off Sheffield Road in Ottawa, Ontario. Blackwell is a street of repair shops, so look for the name. The red and white sign over the bay door is the one you are looking for. Inside are two Technolift two post lifts in a drive through bay, a Daytona four post alignment lift, a camera based alignment and ADAS calibration station with its target boards, a tire changer, and a waiting room with a window into the office.

Customers who review the shop tend to mention Eli by name, and they mention the same two things: that he knows the cars, and that he is straight with people about what needs doing. That is the standard the rest of this site tries to hold to.

Who works on your car

Eli runs the shop. The booking page also lists Matt, mechanic, and Delaney, technician, so you may deal with any of the three.

How the shop works

Most repair bills go wrong at the start, when a part gets replaced on a guess. So the shop is set up to test first. Diagnostic time is posted at $150 to start, scan included, and inspection time at $120 an hour, so you know what finding the problem costs before anything is found.

Once the cause is known, you get a call with the repair, the price and what can safely wait. Parts are priced for your car specifically. Nothing gets replaced without your go ahead.

The equipment

The alignment lift and the calibration station share one bay on purpose. A lot of cars built in the last few years have a camera behind the windshield and radar behind the grille, and those need re aiming after an alignment, a windshield replacement or front end work. Doing both on the same level floor, with the target boards at the distances the manufacturer specifies, is what makes the calibration hold.

The two post lifts handle the rest: brakes, suspension, exhaust, leaks, anything that needs the car in the air with the wheels hanging.
