Blair Road to Exit 112

From Beacon Hill, Carson Grove or Rothwell Heights, head down Blair Road, get on the highway westbound, and stay on it through the Split. Exit 112 for Innes Road comes up right after. From the exit, Sheffield Road takes you south to Blackwell Street, and the shop is Unit 112 at 2595 Blackwell St, Ottawa, ON.

Beacon Hill South is about 8 km and eleven minutes. From Beacon Hill North or Rothwell Heights, closer to the river, count on 13 to 15 minutes. In the morning, westbound traffic from Orléans is already stacked up by the time it reaches Blair, so allow extra time if you are dropping off before work.

Alignment and calibration in the same bay

Plenty of newer SUVs and minivans parked around Beacon Hill have a camera behind the windshield and radar in the bumper. Those systems read the road based on where the car is pointed, so when the alignment changes, the camera’s idea of straight ahead changes too.

At Unit 112 the Daytona four post lift and the camera calibration station share one bay. A wheel alignment starts at $125, and ADAS calibration starts at $200, with the target boards set up in front of the lift. If you just had a windshield replaced, the camera needs calibrating even if the alignment is fine.

Ogilvie, Montreal Road and worn suspension

Ogilvie Road and Montreal Road both carry a lot of buses and trucks, and their pavement shows it. Add the expansion joints on the highway and a few years of potholes, and the rubber and ball joints in a front end wear out quietly until something starts to knock.

The usual sign is a clunk over speed bumps, a wander at highway speed, or a steering wheel that feels loose on centre. Suspension and steering work starts with an inspection at $120 an hour, with the car up on a lift and each joint checked by hand. Worn parts get replaced before the alignment, never after.

Brakes, and what to book together

Highway driving followed by stop and go on Blair Road and Ogilvie Road is a mixed duty cycle for brakes. Pads glaze, rotors warp from heat, and in winter the salt gets into the caliper slides. A pulse through the pedal when you slow down from highway speed is often the first sign.

Brake repair begins with an inspection that measures what is left. If the car is already coming in for suspension parts or an alignment, it makes sense to have the brakes looked at in the same visit, since the wheels are off either way.

Making the morning work

The shop opens at 8am, and the last drop off is 4pm, Monday to Friday. Pickup is any time before 5pm. If you take Line 1 into work, note that Blair station is not near the shop. The closer station is Cyrville, about 4 km from Blackwell Street, which means a cab or bus between them.

The waiting room has chairs, a TV and a window into the office, which works for a tire swap or a quick check. For alignment and calibration together, a drop off is the easier plan. You can book online any hour of the day.

Questions people ask

How long is the drive from Beacon Hill to Scorpion Auto Tech?

About 11 minutes from Beacon Hill South and 13 to 15 minutes from Beacon Hill North or Rothwell Heights. Get on the highway westbound at Blair Road, take Exit 112 for Innes Road, then Sheffield Road to Blackwell Street.

Do I need ADAS calibration after a new windshield?

If the car has a lane keeping camera mounted behind the windshield, usually yes. The camera has to be aimed again once new glass is in, or lane and collision warnings can be off. ADAS calibration at Scorpion Auto Tech starts at $200.

Can I get an alignment and ADAS calibration on the same visit?

Yes. The four post alignment lift and the camera calibration station are in the same bay, so the car is aligned and then calibrated without being moved to another shop.

Why does my car clunk over bumps on Ogilvie Road?

A clunk over bumps usually comes from worn sway bar links, ball joints, strut mounts or control arm bushings. A suspension inspection, billed at $120 an hour, finds which one before parts are ordered.
