The shop is already in Alta Vista

Most people picture Alta Vista as the houses along Alta Vista Drive and Heron Road, but the district stretches east to Sheffield Road, and Blackwell Street sits inside it. From Sheffield Glen or Hawthorne Meadows the shop is about 3 km away, roughly six minutes along Russell Road or Walkley Road.

That route never touches the 417, which is the point on a weekday morning when the Queensway is crawling toward the Split. Look for the glass door marked 112, beside the roll up bay door under the red and white sign, at 2595 Blackwell St, Ottawa, ON.

What short trips do to an engine

A lot of driving in Alta Vista is short. School, groceries, a medical appointment, home again. The engine rarely gets fully hot, so in winter moisture and unburnt fuel collect in the oil, and the exhaust rusts from the inside out because the condensation never boils off.

Owner’s manuals have a severe service schedule written for exactly this, and most cars around here qualify for it. Our oil change and maintenance work follows what your manual asks for, not a generic sticker. If the car mostly does trips under ten minutes, say so when you book.

Older streets, older cars

Much of Alta Vista was built in the years after the war, and a fair number of the cars in its driveways have had one owner for a long time. Add residential streets that get patched every spring after the freeze thaw, and you get the usual list: worn front end parts, tires with a bulge from a pothole, and brakes that have rusted more than they have worn.

Cars that sit between short trips grow rust on the rotor faces and can seize a caliper slide. You feel it as a pull to one side or a pulse in the pedal. The October tire rush

Winter tire season fills the booking calendar from mid October into November, and Alta Vista is close enough that a tire swap barely costs you your morning. Putting tires that are already on rims onto the car is $60. Mounting and balancing a new set onto your rims starts at $120.

Fitting it into your week

The shop is open Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm, and Saturday from 9am to noon, and the last drop off of the day is at 4pm. For a quick job, the waiting room has chairs, a TV and a window into the office. For anything that needs real diagnosis, drop the car off and get on with your day.
